Facelift
Getting older affects the body in many ways with the face revealing signs of aging sooner than any other area. Sun damage and the natural aging process can cause your youthful plump cheeks and glowing skin to fade away as facial fat is lost and the texture of the skin becomes coarser. As years pass and facial skin begins moving downward, it starts to sag resulting in unsightly bags and overhanging jowls. Patients complain that they look tired and "old." Sometimes the best skin care, laser skin resurfacing and facial fillers, can no longer maintain your youthful appearance. It may be time to consider the face lift, mid face lift, brow lift, or neck lift procedures. The Facelift is designed to improve laxity of jowls, cheeks, loose neck (turkey neck) and facial skin.
How is the Facelift done?
In this surgical procedure, Dr. Hughes removes excess skin and fat from the face and neck area through well planned incisions that start in the hairline and run down in front of the ear and up behind the ear. The underlying structures and drooping fat, muscles and skin are repositioned with small sutures. The procedure is performed in one of our two offices in Philadelphia or New Jeresy. The entire face lift procedure typically lasts 2-3 hours, and then you return home the same day.
Who is a good candidate for a Face Lift procedure?
During your preoperative consultation, you will meet with Dr. Susan Hughes. She will evaluate the quality of the skin, looseness at the jaw line, the angle from the chin to the bottom of the neck, and the amount of fat and excess skin present in the neck area. Because the results are very dependent on the elasticity of the skin, if the skin has had extensive damage, additional procedures may be required such a laser skin resurfacing, fat transfer, facial liposuction or eyelid procedures. An individual treatment plan will be developed with your goals in mind.
How long do the results of the Facelift last?
In all faces, despite a person’s age, some sagging can be found. The course of aging will continue after your procedure as the skin loses its natural elasticity. Gravity can cause the slack skin to collect along the jaws, in the center of the neck under the chin and at the corners of the mouth. It is not possible to predict at what time and to what degree this may happen. Heredity, age and lifestyle differences, race, stress, health condition, and diet all affect how soon other procedures may be considered.
Face Lift Recovery
Within a few days, patients are able to go out in public with the aid of makeup. This will vary with each person. For several days, it's essential to restrict your activities. It may be up to 7 days before you can return to work.
